PROJECT

Mission to Beira, Mozambique

In April 2018 one of our colleagues visited the city of Beira in Mozambique to help the local government in identifying actions for coastal protection and urban flooding and see which opportunities exist for development of the city and its surroundings. Beira is an important economic hub for the country, not in the least because it hosts one of the major ports in Mozambique. At the same time, Beira is vulnerable to natural disasters, being located along a coast where cyclones can make landfall and being situated in a low-lying zone where overland floods can accumulate. Follow up actions and opportunities identified during the mission will be presented at an investors conference later this year in Beira. The mission was sponsored by the Netherlands Governement and carried out in collaboration with Deltares and Delft Technical University.
