Flood Forecasting System for Alexandria, Egypt

HKV has started the development of a flood forecasting system for Alexandria, Egypt. This project is carried out under the FDW project (Fonds Duurzaam Water) “Anticipatory Flood Management in Alexandria, Egypt (AFMA)” in cooperation with IHE Delft, Holding Co. for Water and Wastewater (HCWW), Alexandria University, Montaser General Contractors Co., GRID – Group of Integrated Design and Alexandria Business Association. The beneficiary is the Alexandria Sanitary Drainage Company (ASDCO). The forecasting system will be developed based on Delft-FEWS software and will provide forecasts for severe storms in the urban environment, based on different regional weather forecasts. The project will be carried out in the years 2019 – 2024.

Last week our colleagues Nicole Jungermann and Dorien Lugt had a very inspiring inception week for the flood forecasting system for Alexandria. We are looking forward to develop the forecasting system together with IHE, HCWW, GRID, Alexandria University, Montesar and ASDCO.
